RAAF Gets The CANZ
Raaf Left Carrying The Canz
RAAF Richmond’s No. 36 Squadron was “left carrying the CANZ” for the second time running last May.
But no one’s complaining – in fact, the squadron is jubilant because the ‘CANZ’ is the trophy that establishes their supremacy in the field of tactical navigation and airdropping.
Two crews from 36 Squadron – one captained by Squadron Leader John Cornish, the other by Flight Lieutenant Bill Mattes – returned triumphantly from Canada on May 16′ after taking out first and second places in Exercise Bulls Eye, the biannual exercise in international co-operation highlighting navigation skill and air-dropping precision.
