Raiders From the West:
Skywest Airlines of Perth have purchased the Melbourne-based H. C Sleigh Aviation Ltd to become the largest GA company in Australia Skywest will now operate a total of 44 aircraft ranging from piston twins to pure jets. Skywest operates 28 aircraft in West Australia and currently employs 170 people H C. Sleigh Aviation currently services contracts for Coastal Surveillance and Customs tasks from seven bases between Townsville, Darwin and Port Hedland. H C. Sleigh used 12 Rockwell Shrike commanders and four Nomad Searchmaster aircraft for this task. Skywest also made a submission before the West Australian government seeking to compete with Airlines of Western Australia on the major intrastate routes. For this operation Skywest are looking at pure jet aircraft such as the F.28 or BAe 146.
Dassault Stretch Falcon 50:
Dassault has decided to stretch the Falcon 50 trijet to accommodate a maximum of 19 passengers, Precise dimensions have not been released except that the new aircraft, designated Falcon 900, will be wider than a Gulfstream and longer than a Challenger. The 900 will have a maximum payload range of 3800 nm and will be powered by three Garrett TFE731-5 turbofans though a twinjet version using General Electric CF34s has also been rumoured, The First flight is slated for late 1984 with customer deliveries commencing in 1986. Price at time of writing was in the order of $13.5 million US which equates to the Gulfstream GIII and Challenger 601.
