Formal Ano 95.22 Ratification Looking Good
At the time of going to press the Australian Ultralight Federation (AUF) was close to re-submitting, the revised draft of ANO 95.22 to the Department of Aviation. Delays had ensued since the AUF was formed at the 1983 Mangalore Air Show while the AUF and the SAM determined who exactly was going to overseer the fledgling ultralight community it now appears, all going well, that the DofA will be able to privately endorse the revised ANO 95.22 legislation before this Christmas with the objective of having it officially legislated on before March. 1984
This will then provide the AUF with a similar capability to that possessed by the successfully-run Gliding Federation of Australia The AUF will then be responsible for policing the industry, providing pilots with a ‘pilot certificate’ and training only from approved schools or clubs. Some of the current alterations between the 95.10 and 95.22 leg1slat1on are an empty weight Increase to 150 kg and the use of two-seat aircraft for training purposes Fuel capacity will jump to 30 litres and aircraft will be able to fly cross-country at up to 2,000 ft AGL providing they stay clear of controlled airspace and licensed aerodromes.
