Ansett Still Getting Air Queens- Land On-Carriage:
Virtually all of Air Queensland’s valuable on-carriage traffic is still going to Ansett despite the carrier now being owned by TAA. Air Queensland originally entered a servicing and traffic agreement with Ansett in September, 1981 and while they won’t be drawn into the duration of the agreement a number of sources believe that it may extend till the end of the present Two Airline Agreement in 1990.
A clause in the agreement apparently states that neither signatory can disclose the terms of the agreement to a third party without the full consent of either party. In short, there is the distinct possibility that TAA was not aware of this agreement when they purchased a majority shareholding in Air Queensland in April this year. TAA are offering a ‘no comment’ on the whole affair which now has TAA-owned F27 aircraft being serviced by Ansett in support of the long-standing agreement between the two carriers. Air Queensland also purchased in July the three F27-200s that they formerly leased from Ansett.
