Helicopter Happenings
At press time, most newsworthy aspects of the helicopter industry seem to be concentrated in the off-shore and metropolitan sectors of the industry.
The of/ashore people, still somewhat unsettled by the controversy surrounding the award and subsequent cancellation of the ShellWoodside off-shore helicopter support contract based at Karratha on the Northwest Shelf, eagerly await the award of the Jabiru, Northern Territory, support contract. Although tenders were called for an initial two-year program supporting resource exploration, the development stage is expected to extend more than five years. Sources in the off-shore support companies seem reluctant to discuss the events surrounding Schreiner Airways’ loss of the Shell-Woodside deal-but it is clear that participants in that sector of the industry are shaken by the events and their possible long-term implications.
