Not exactly what Beechcraft found in their corporate Christmas stocking but nevertheless just what the Wichita-based manufacturer had long wished for - their own executive jet. The Mitsubishi Diamond II will now be known as the Beechjet and will complement the King Air 300 and eventual Starship ran9e.

Beechcraft Buy the Mitsubishi Diamond Line:
Long wanting a corporate jet product, Beechcraft moved late in 1985 to buy the entire production operation of the Mitsubishi Diamond. The Diamond I and IA, along with the MU-2 Solitaire and Marquis have been dropped in favour of concentrating resources on the Diamond Beech will now market the Diamond Il as the Beechjet and will drop the former name in favour of a vastly improved product image via its own corporate name. Beech will also now be responsible for international support of existing Diamond jets and MU-2 turboprops. The Beechjet will now be assembled at Wichita while the bulk of former Mitsubishi (USA) employees will be retained.
Beech are still going to proceed with a turbofan version of their radical Starship, designated Starship II, though Beech claim this will not affect marketing of the smaller Beechjet to any extent as their market presence is aimed at two different groups of potential users.
