This year’s Farnborough air show, which is fully reviewed elsewhere in this edition, highlighted more than anything the need for collaboration in launching, developing and building tomorrow’s range of aerospace hardware.

Almost every country and every firm, offering airframes or engines, nowadays has a collaborative partner. The reasons of course are obvious. Partnerships not only enhance the overall level of expertise but they also split the necessary launch costs while usually allowing a stronger ultimate marketing base due to the relative ‘internationalisation’ of the project.
