Hawker Pacific now have a resident Beech 1900 demonstrator. The 1900 is an 18 seat commuter direct competition the BAeJetstream31. Australian Aviation briefly flew the aircraft during its recent demonstration tour and was suitably impressed with the aircraft's solid feel and considerable performance margin.

Product Liability Claims Another Victim:
As a direct result of the disastrous US situation regarding corporate product liability insurance, Avco Lycoming has decided to withdraw from their engine development contract with John Deere.
Lycoming signed a contract with John Deere in 1985 to jointly develop stratified charge rotary engines for aviation applications in a programme valued at $US30m. At the time it was hoped that such a family of engines, ranging from 150 through to 600hp, would have been certificated by 1991. Lycoming states that with the present public liability insurance situation being ‘totally out of control’ it is simply not worth developing new engines and airframes that incur such heavy insurance premiums.
