Israel's latest fighter, the IA/ Lavi, takes to the air on its first flight on the final day of 1986. Lavi will ultimately replace Kfir, F-4 and A-4 aircraft in the Heyl Ha Avir though it is presently meeting with financing restrictions as the US puts pressure on Israel to select a US aircraft in place of Lavi.

Cooksey Report Foresees a Doubling of Military Export Potential:
The report into streamlining Australia’s military-industrial complex by Mr Robert Cooksey of the ANU foresees Australian industry exporting upwards of $500m of military hardware annually if his recommendations are adopted, reports Max Hawkins writing in his weekly Defence Industry Newsletter.
Cooksey estimates our present annual military exports at around $250m and is confident that this figure can be more than doubled within three to five years through hard work and a significant change of attitude by politicians, industry and the DoD. Cooksey sees the great advantage of his two major recommendations as being that they can be implemented relatively quickly and without financial cost.
