Ansett Now Backing Deregulation

Deregulation on the Way Says Ansett

Ansett has officially accepted that some degree of deregulation is inevitable. This was made clear by the company’s aviation policy manager, James Kimpton, at a Chartered Institute of Transport national conference in Perth during March.

In a rearguard action, the company is lobbying hard to minimise the impact of any change and, at the same time, to promote head to head competition with an Australian Airlines deprived of government backing.

Kimpton said that if deregulation came, Australian Airlines would have to be sold and international airlines limited to their present domestic route access or the whole fabric of high standard, efficient and equitable services for Australian domestic airline passengers would be threatened.
