General Electric scooped the pool with American Akline's massive March buy of 25 Airbus lndustrie A300-600R and 15 Boeing 767-300ERs (pictured). GE have reason to smile as in addition to winning this large order they have to date also totally wrapped up the propulsion side of each MD-11 trijet sale.

Airbus A330/340 Launch Imminent:
Formal launch of the A330/340 was expected as we closed for press. This will ensure that the development programme continues on time for entry into service of the A340 for May 1992 and the A330 twinjet one year later.
Both Lufthansa (with 30 ordered) and Air Fr- ance have already unofficially launched the programme though Airbus state that they now have commitments from nine carriers for a total of 104 aircraft. Lufthansa will use the A340 to replace their existing DC-10-30 fleet and have ordered both versions of the A340 to satisfy their requirements. The A340-200 version can carry approximately 220 passengers and 11 tonnes of cargo over a distance of 7700nm while the longer fuselage A340-300 can carry 236 pax and 15 tonnes of freight over 7000nm.
