Australia to Develop New Light Helicopter With France?
At time of going to press there was a considerable chance that Australia would be joining with France to co-develop a new light helicopter.
For the past several months in-depth discussions have been taking place between the newly formed Aerospace Technologies of Australia (ex GAF) and Aerospatiale on both companies jointly developing a successor to the popular Squirrel helicopter as a commercial 50/50 venture. ATA would team with Aerospatiale to design, develop, market and build the new light helo for the world market. Market studies presently suggest a requirement for around 10,000 Squirrel/Jetranger class helicopters in the period 1995-2015 while the proposed partnership would target at least a third of this potential market for the new light helicopter.
