HdH are looking to collaborative ventures with the world's leading aerospace manufacturers and are presently discussing joint venture partnerships with McDonnell Douglas on the MD propfan aircraft, Airbus on their A330/340 (pictured below) and with Boeing on the 7J7.
The Future of HdH
The Future of Hawker de Havilland
Rollo Kingsford-Smith, the recently retired Chairman of Hawker de Havilland, used to remind his senior executives regularly that “Change is inevitable; successful businesses are those where management recognises the inevitability of change and takes appropriate initiatives to benefit from change rather than becoming a victim of it”.
Hawker de Havilland has seen many changes over the years and through times of turbulence has managed to survive and even prosper. But all that is now in the past; the changes currently confronting HdH are as great as any in its history. Offsetting this, the opportunities provided by these changes are also very major.
However, one thing that is unlikely to change in the short term is HdH’s primary aerospace emphasis. Despite past diversifications into the marine field and general engineering, HdH’s fundamental skills lie in the aerospace field and closely related defence technologies, so unless unusually attractive alternatives present themselves, HdH will continue to concentrate on aerospace activities.
