The RN Commando Carrier HMS Bulwark is to be brought from reserve and placed in an anti-submarine role owing to the delay in completion of HMS Invincible which was launched in May. This was considered necessary as when the Ark Royal is withdrawn from service at the end of 1978, the only operational British carrier would have been the Hermes prior to the Invincible’s expected introduction into service in 1980.

The de Havilland Dash-7 STOL airliner received Canadian Type Approval on 2 May. one month after the rollout of the first production aircraft.
