More Black Hawk Helicopters for the Army

The Minister for Defence, Mr Kim Beazley, has confirmed the acquisition of a further 25 Sikorsky S-70A- 9 Black Hawk helicopters for the Australian Army. The total project cost Is $500 million (at August 1986) Mr Beazley said.

“The additional Black Hawks, together with the initial acquisition of 14 approved by the Government in April 1986, will provide the capacity to lift an infantry company group of 150 personnel and equipment simultaneously to the north and north-west of Australia, overcoming performance limitations of the existing UH-1H Iroquois helicopters. ”
