Qantas Engine Decision Virtually Severs Long Time Connection With Pratt & Whitney:

Qantas ended an association of more than four decades with US engine manufacturer, Pratt & Whitney, during July when it announced that it would opt for engines from General Electric to power its proposed fleet of 767-300 twinjets.

The decision is seen as a major win for GE, who have been hard at work on Qantas ever since their CF6-80C2 was certificated in 1985. Qantas has 1 767-300ER on order with a further 6 on option. It is felt that ultimately Qantas will roll over its 767-200s, powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9 engines, in favour of additional stretched 767-300ERs.
