Ladies First

I may be accused of a lot of things but one thing that I am not is a classic male chauvinist. I have often thought that women are capable of more things then they normally are given credit for (if you put the average housewife in charge of a government department they would probably clean it up overnight!). Thus it is great to be able to report that at last the fairer sex are getting their two bob’s worth in the world of commercial aviation.

Nowadays all the airlines are hiring women tech crews and more recently so are the armed forces. Australia of course is no exception where the percentage of females in the ADF has risen from only 4% in 1983 to 8. 7% by mid ’87 (refer p. 11 Sept AA). Undoubtedly four of the luckiest are Beverley Wright, Robyn Williams, Jennifer Heath and Deborah Hicks who by the time you read this are hopefully graduating from their training course at Point Cook, birthplace of the RAAF.
