Heathrow, one of the world's busiest airports and one which comes complete with a day-to-day weather environment which would make Australian operators cringe, is just one of 22 UK airports that are presently enjoying upgraded ATC coverage via new Cassar monopulse radars.
Australian SSR Capability Due For Upgrade
Hawker Pacific and Awa Team With Cossor to Bid for Major Australian Atc Upgrade Contract
Hawker Pacific and AWA are teaming with England’s Cossor to win the $68m Australian Radar Sensor Procurement Programme (RASPP).
RASPP will effectively usher in a considerable enhancement in the operational surveillance radar capability throughout the civil airways of Australia. When the entire system is operational around 1993, it will provide ATC with altitude encasement, position, speed and aircraft flight code and type. In turn this will greatly reduce ATC workload, improve safety and provide an overall better capability for airways management and approach flow control.
