Corporate Contrails
Sydney Airport
Since the last Corporate Contrails, the ABAA have attended further meetings in Sydney to investigate with OTC (Department of Transport and Communications) officers and industry representatives ways in which the existing priority system could be modified to alleviate the present problems.
By way of example the problem was typified by a recent flight of the Coles Myer BAe125 from Newcastle to Sydney as a part of a day long itinerary to visit establishments within the group. The day was planned to gain maximum efficiency from the aircraft and allow executives to visit as many people as reasonable, prior to returning to headquarters in Melbourne. The sector was planned to take 17 minutes on a day with no weather problems. Despite the fact that a clearance was obtained prior to taxi at Newcastle, the flight ended up taking 59 minutes in total. This represents more than three times the planned flight time and, more significantly, represents lost time to the executives of one of our largest companies as well as wastage of valuable fuel resources.
