Mathias Rust’s Cessna Saga Continues:

What by now must surely be the world’s most famous Cessna 172 Skyhawk is taking on a new life as a mobile advertising vehicle for a West German perfume distributor. The Skyhawk was flown back to Hamburg in October following its May foray to Moscow’s Red Square and was sold by the heavily in-debt Hamburg Aero Club to Azuma Royal for a reported $A80,000, a price which reflects a premium for the aircraft’s checkered past. Azuma Royal have in turn displayed the aircraft at numerous marketing promotions throughout Europe providing a novel twist to the saga. Meanwhile the Hamburg Aero Club still intend to sue Mathias Rust for stealing the aircraft and for the losses the small Club has suffered as a result of losing half their training/hire fleet.

Bae 125-800 Tops the Ton:

BAe’s long-lived business jet, the 125, has now logged the 100th sale for the latest in the breed, the -800 model. During 1986 the 8-10 seat executive jet captured over 40% of the total market in its class despite strong competition from US, French and Israeli manufacturers. Overall, BAe have now sold 675 125 jets since the type first became operational more than a quarter century ago.
