Wittman Field, Oshkosh, the very home of warbird and antique aeroplane aviation. Oshkosh '88 is expected to host over 2000 display aircraft including 300 warbirds (30 Mustangs alone!) with visiting aircraft exceeding some 15,000. It has to be seen to be believed and certainly once seen is never forgotten. Won't you join us?

Oshkosh Tour Set to Excite

Australian Aviation and Torii Tours are just putting the finishing touches to their two specialist aviation tours for 1988. Our first tour visits the USA with a late July departure and the second will take in the Farnborough Air Show in September.

The US tour, which will be hosted by well known Warbird specialist and long-time AA correspondent Dave Prossor, revolves around that mega event of Warbird and General Aviation – Oshkosh.

In more formal terms, it will be the 36th annual convention of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EM) which will see upwards of 800,000 visitors packing Wittman Field for the one week aviation extravaganza. Oshkosh indeed is difficult to comprehend as literally everything is on such a grand scale. Over 15,000 aircraft are scheduled to fly in during the event, of which nearly 2000 will be on display and over 300 of which are certified Warbirds. This is indeed Warbird country and the sight of dozens of Mustangs, Thunderbolts, Corsairs, Harvards and Texans plus even the rarer types such as the Hurricane, Spitfire, Zero and Bearcat is certainly a sight that is not easily forgotten. The later generation combatants are there too as the US military generally displays its wares to some extent as does the big iron of the Confederate Air Force. Last year there were some 30 P-51 Mustangs alone, about a third of the total world population of this most famous of WW2 fighters.
