Visually the Fokker 50 can best be identified by its larger number of windows, dual nosewheel, redesigned nacelles and six-bladed props. The primary difference though, inside or outside the aircraft, is the vastly improved reduction in noise over the F27 Friendship.

The Fokker 50 Enters Australian Service
The first of ten Ansett Fokker 50s entered service with Air NSW on November 16th.
Previous to this the aircraft had completed a whistle-stop 14 day, 23 port publicity tour throughout the carrier’s network which is believed to have seen over 60,000 people inspect the new aircraft.
And new it is. The Fokker 50 represents a considerable advancement for the Ansett group’s propjet services. Primary passenger difference between the old Friendship and the 50 will be a vastly quieter cabin, almost no in-flight vibration, better catering and more comfortable seats in addition to reduced flight times. A quick demonstration flight indicated immediately that even with the props the 50 is dramatically quieter than its predecessor.
