•  Boeing has tentatively assigned the designations Model 757, 767 and 777 to a new range of airliner designs. The 757 closely resembles the earlier 7N7 which was a 150- 170 seat narrow body design using the 727 fuselage cross section with a pair of 15-tonne engines and a new wing. The 7X7 has been replaced by the 767 and 777 which are versions of the same basic aircraft. They share a new fuselage with seven abreast two aisle seating and a new 3000 sq ft wing.

• A further contract has been awarded to Lockheed worth $24M to construct two sets of the new wing for the C-SA Galaxy, which would extend service life by 30,000 hours. Using aluminium alloy 7175-173511 to provide greater toughness and corrosion resistance than the original wing, one wing will be used for fatigue testing in mid-1979 and the second will be fight tested in August 1980. If the tests are satisfactory, all of the USAF’s 77 C-5As will be retrofitted with the replacement wings by mid-1987.
