Air Queensland Lives on as Australian Airlines Launches New Third Level Operation:

Australian Airlines has decided to retain a small portion of the former Air Queensland in operation.

Rather than scuttle the fiscally ill fated carrier altogether Australia have decided to retain the potentially important services linking Welpa, Thursday Island and Bamaga with Cairns. The airline will continue to operate Fokker F27 services on these routes under Air Queensland titles. Other operations of AQ closed down at the end of April with the remainder of its aircraft being sold.
