British Aerospace Looking To Establish Major Flying Training Academy in Australia

British Aerospace is actively investigating the feasibility of establishing a major flying training academy in the region.

During a recent visit to Australia, BAe Chief Executive, Sir Raymond Lygo, stated that the Company was keen to expand its flying training capability and an obvious move was to establish such a centre in this part of the world. While Australia was a primary choice, sites in both Indonesia and Singapore were also under consideration.

The benefits of siting such an academy in Australia are numerous – excellent weather, a wide choice of air traffic density, a large pool of local aviation expertise and also end use access to the technical expertise of three of the most respected airlines in the region, if not the world. British Aerospace is already well established Down Under via its autonomous sibling, British Aerospace Australia, situated on the outskirts of Adelaide in South Australia. BAe could also possibly use the establishment of such an academy to eliminate some of their civil aircraft offset commitments.
