Business Aviation Growing Rapidly
During the first two months of 1988 the use of business aircraft by Australian companies has rocketed. 1987 proved to be a year when many companies entered, for the first time , the world of business aviation. We saw a significant number of our corporate leaders realise the advantages to be gained from the use of their own inhouse aircraft and this brought about the introduction of new operations Australia-wide. Just after the October stock market crash, some observers were predicting gloom for our sector of aviation but within the ABAA, we felt that companies would need to work even harder in future to ensure success. We felt that this would, on balance, bring about an increase in overall activity and this prediction has proven correct.
Australian Jet Charter based in Sydney has been inundated with requests for its aircraft and a lot of the activity could be attributed to ‘post crash’ corporate operations. One of the most significant trends which is emerging from the recent growth is the use of aircraft by banking and retail’ companies. Senior executives appreciate the opportunity to visit far-flung outposts of their ’empires’ and meet with staff on a more regular basis than would normally be possible. This trend reflects the early development of business aviation in the United States and is likely to become increasingly accepted in Australia. Senior executives’ time is very valuable and the use of business aircraft ensures the maximum utilisation of this corporate asset.
