Airtest – Cessna Citation 3

Russ Meyer, President of Cessna Aircraft Company, introduced the Model 650 Citation Ill to the world during the 1976 NBAA Convention held in Denver, Colorado. Cessna was already an established jet manufacturer at this time having delivered numerous copies of its very successful Citation 500 aircraft. The C500 became the cornerstone of a family of aircraft that included the Citation I, Citation II and Citation Ill and with over 1,500 aircraft sold, the fleet has accumulated in excess of four million flight hours.

With the Citation Ill starting life on a clean sheet of paper and introducing new construction techniques, it took a six year gestation period and almost $300 million to see the first production model roll out the factory door. That was in 1982 and the first customer delivery was effected during the second quarter of 1983. Now with over 140 aircraft sold, the Citation Ill must be considered a great success for the Cessna Aircraft Company and Russ Meyer.
