Review of Operational Control

The ABAA are pleased to note that the recent review of the future of operational control, undertaken by officers within the Department of Transport and Communications, has resulted in a number of recommendations for change. At first glance it does appear that, in adopting some of the recommendations, the DTAC will reflect the views expressed during the consultations. Although it is foreshadowed that certain operational control functions will be removed from private operators, we are concerned that it is likely that the range of operations to be covered by the service will increase overall. We can, therefore, foresee no reduction in overall costs for the services provided for which our members will still be expected to pay.

If private operators are to truly benefit from such changes they should not have to contribute to a service which they are no longer receiving. We will, over the next few weeks, be forming an official response to the review and would be pleased to hear from members on the subject.
