Sydney Airport – Future Development

The ABM were delighted to see the major thrust of the industry arguments in front of the Senate Standing Committee on Transport and Communications were about the provision of a north south parallel runway suitable for aircraft up to F50 size. We have made representations to both the FAG and the Minister on this matter and were pleased to see the level of support. It was also interesting to see Australian Airlines advise the Committee that delays are costing the airlines over $20m per annum, a fact reported in this column over 12 months ago.

The future development of airport capacity for Sydney represents one of the greatest challenges to the industry and it is time for the politicians to be made aware of some of the facts. Wherever narrow political needs avoid issues such as the provision of adequate facilities for airports, we face such crises.
