New Airports Pressure Group:

With the stated intention of ‘negotiating with Government and various Regulatory Bodies controlling the Aviation Industry’ representatives of nine FAC-controlled airports have met and resolved to form a national committee to be called the Federal Airport Operators and Tennants Association. The association’s initial coordinator is Skybird Avialion’s John Maitland and he and his committee intend to tackle some currently prickly issues as a matter of urgency.

These include the method of charging landing fees by the FAC at Coolangatta, Essendon and Launceston airports; the need for the industry to pay additional charges when the Bosch report recommendations (100% cost recovery) have already been exceeded; the need for the FAC to accept that airport revenue cross-subsidy is necessary; to seek a meeting with Federal Transport Minister Gareth Evans to discuss various issues of concern to the future wellbeing of the Australian general aviation industry and other matters.
