Shuttle Launch Set for September as US Space Programme Regains Momentum

The Shuttle Discovery was transferred to Launch Pad 39B on the 4th July in preparation for a launch during September with the slight slip in launch date being attributed to processing delays.

Indications are that the intensity and scope of recent SRB testing has exceeded the original testing carried out before the very first Shuttle launch. Current SRB tests are concentrating on verifying booster integrity at the extremes of its operating envelope, this involves firing the boosters while under set side loads simulated with large hydraulic rams.
