1988 Regional Airline Directory
In this, our ninth annual listing of the regional airline operators of Australia, it is pleasing to be able to report what can only be termed as good news.
Indeed, growth is strong, stronger than experienced for many, many years while yields are also healthy. The only blight on the horizon is the inevitable march of bureaucratic charges as the FAC and CAA work on the noble concept of actually showing a profit while still operating as monopoly ‘enterprises’. To any Real World private enterprise airline executive, this can only equate to a new range of cost increases in the longer term, many of which are already being implemented.
The past year has seen its usual comings and goings with the most significant being the final liquidation of the ailing Air Queensland, the emergence of an entirely Australian Airlinesowned commuter in Australian Regional and the strengthening of Australian’s northern dual designator, Sunbird as AO faded into memory status.
