One Man’s Air Force
Col Pay’s pleasures in life are the relatively simple ones – his family, the odd beer – and aeroplanes
So far this probably sounds like most of the readers of Australian Aviation, except that Col Pay is able to indulge his passion for things aeronautical – and preferably those with tail wheels and propellers – to a slightly greater extent than most of us.
Pay’s Air Service is a thriving aviation business based at Scone, New South Wales. As one of Australia’s largest aerial work operators, its pilots get in a lot of hours flying heavy propeller-driven aeroplanes at low altitude. Leading the bunch is the company’s proprietor, Col Pay, a man best known among Australian warbird enthusiasts as the owner of not only an airworthy Mustang but also Australia’s only airworthy Spitfire.
