• The Defence Minister, Mr James Killen has announced that the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and Panavia Tornado have been deleted from the list of possible replacement aircraft for the RAAF’s Mirage II10s. The list of contenders now consists of the McDonnell Douglas/ Northrop F-18A Homet, Northrop F-18L, General Dynamics F-16 and the Dassault Breguet Mirage 2000. A final decision regarding the $500m purchase of 25 aircraft is expected to be made by late 1979.
• East-West Airlines has received another Fokker F27, VH-EWT a -500 Series aircraft to replace an F27-100 VH-EWG which was sold to Air Executive of Norway. This takes the East-West Friendship fleet to nine aircraft comprising seven-500 Series and two-100 Series. The airline is currently evaluating jet airliners which would be suitable to meet its future needs.
