Bicentennial Air Show a Huge Success for Industry

While the commercial results will not be known for some months yet, there is no doubt that the Australian Bicentennial Air Show, held at RAAF base Richmond 11-16 October and reported in depth elsewhere in this issue, was a success beyond the most optimistic expectations of the organisers, exhibitors and attenders. A survey of exhibitors both from Australia and overseas showed that all were happy , with the genuine potential business which the show generated.

Many overseas companies initially came to Australia for the show out of a sense of obligation – the event being the celebration of the bicentenary of one of their biggest customer nations. However, they found they had many opportunities to speak to the numerous senior executives and government officials who attended. The show provided many of them with an ideal opportunity to capitalise on their long-term relationships with Australians. Others were visiting Australia for the first time and were able to find many opportunities to discuss business arrangements with potential Australian customers, agents and collaborators. All visitors were left in no doubt that the best way to sell their systems or products into the Australian market was by getting Australian companies involved. ‘The higher the Australian industry involvement in their programmes the greater their chances of success”, was the message they were given.
