New Minister – Yet Again

After countless changes to the aviation portfolio over the past years we have another new face responsible for the Aviation portfolio. This time the Prime Minster picked Mr Gary Punch who has, for years, _been characterised by his opposition to the development of Sydney Alrpcirt. This does not exactly fill this with confidence for the future, particularly as he chose the first weeks in the Ministry to pontificate as to the likely effects of approving a substantial expansion of the International Terminal at Sydney Airport.

In the media release he_ foreshadowed that the terminal expansion programme would remove once and for all, calls for an additional runway and relaxation of the curfew. This pathetic statement seeks to mislead the public into the belief that the matters are in any way connected. If your advisers are afraid to tell you Mr Punch, we will: “The provision of expanded international terminal facilities at Sydney is undoubtedly needed but this does not provide additional runway capacity. Any attempt to connect the two is misleading. ”
