Dollars and Sense at Ksa

Melbourne’s selection as Australia’s preferred venue for the 1996 Olympic Games might well have torpedoed Sydney airport’s greatest chance of finally getting the official government recognition that it has long deserved.

If Sydney had been chosen as the Olympic city, then the prospects of getting approval for a wide range of improvements at Mascot, including a parallel runway, would have been almost guaranteed. It seems that nowadays almost everybody recognises the value of a major airport such as Sydney’s KSA, that is everybody except the Federal government and the local councils.
