Oncarriage agreements between major carriers and their commuter partners, as illustrated here by Australian and Eastern, are absolutely vital as a means of country people being able to fly to other parts of Australia in a time and cost efficient manner. The Federal Government's rapidly evolving policy of arbitrarily restricting all such aircraft from Australia's most important airport will do nothing to alleviate the long-term problems that KSA now suffers due to years of governmental neglect at both the State and Federal level. A parallel runway would increase overall capacity by more than a third and must be commenced soon if KSA and Sydney is not to become an eventual air transport backwater. (Rob Finlayson)

Domestics Join Forces to Fight For Ksa Upgrading
Australia’s national aviation passenger system faces critical damage unless there is urgent action to overcome the saturated capacity problems at Sydney Airport, according to Ansett and Australian Airlines.
In a joint statement (which is also supported by Qantas) issued at press time, the two airlines said up to 90% of their combined fleets pass through the overloaded airport at Mascot each day. “Increasing difficulties at Mascot affected passengers all around Australia, threatened tourism development and disrupted business travel”, said Ansett General Manager, Mr Graeme McMahon and Australian Airline’s Chief Executive, Mr James Strong.
