Ministerial Meeting

During December we were granted an audience with Mr Gary Punch, Minister for Aviation Support, to discuss a range of concerns that we had previously put to the Minister in writing.

Although we had wide ranging discussions it is clear that the Minister is getting very biased advice from his bureaucrats and consequently displayed some fundamental misunderstandings of certain issues. By way of example, he attempted to persuade us that the imposition of peak charges at Sydney for all other than airline users was a good deal for the business aircraft users. Indeed he went on to explain that if the measures were implemented across the board the business aircraft users would ultimately pay even higher charges because there would be less airline traffic. In putting forward this argument he indicated that the proposed airport charges are based on the need to create a certain level of revenue.
