Black Hawk, Seahawk Programmes Update

Department of Defence military officers and civilian officials have been steadily working early through the New Year to overcome problems that have arisen in the delivery schedules of two streams of helicopters.

Under the procurement orders the Australian Army, via initial Air Force programmes, is to get 39 Sikorsky S-70A-9 utility helicopters. The objective is to establish two Army Aviation Squadrons based at Garbutt, Townsville capable of carrying out a company lift of 150 soldiers into the battlefield over a radius of 160 kilometres in a single lift.
