Built in a matter of weeks is this impressive maintenance hangar for ASTA Aircraft Services at Avalon, Victoria. The Australian firm of Strarch International have made quite a name for themselves in being able to create such hangars with ease and are also responsible for similar structures at Airworld, Schofields and Townsville. ASTA have won a long-term heavy maintenance contract from Continental and are also negotiating with Qantas to undertake some of that carrier's future maintenance owing to expected long-term space problems at the KSA jet base.

Shorts for Fokker?:
With Northern Ireland’s Short Brothers up for grabs, the company handling the sale on behalf of the UK Government has announced that the original list of 30 bidders will be reduced to six.
One interested party is Fokker, which is keeping its options open about whether to buy Shorts alone or with partners. The two companies have a long association, with Shorts responsible for the manufacture of the wings and other minor components for the F. 28 Fellowship and more recently the Fokker 100 twinjet.
