In the series so far we have covered a range of light single and twin engine aircraft of seating capacity for 4 to 6 adults, aeroplanes which are certificated in the normal or utility categories.

This issue we shall look at an aeroplane which provides additional exhilaration for the light aeroplane pilot/air traveller who wishes for something different. There is every chance that it will be found in the Bellanca Decathlon, a two seat, single engine aircraft which, subject to some loading restrictions, is fully aerobatic. So it may be possible, given satisfactory en route conditions and a suitable area, to break the cross-country trip with a few gentle aeros, or fly inverted for a stretch in order to blow the cobwebs that may be accumulating, away.

The Decathlon is very much a sport aeroplane in preference to being a transport vehicle. As a sports plane it is excellent; nevertheless, it is a reasonable mount for personal transport. The Decathlon family also sees commercial service as a spotter, glider and mustering aircraft, notably in the form of the Citabria.
