Certification of Australian Registered Aircraft – The Caa Position

‘Australian Aviation’ (January 1989) criticised the Civil Aviation Authority’s approach to airworthiness certification of aircraft imported for commercial transport operations. The CAA welcomes the invitation by ‘Australian Aviation’ to make a short response.

Much in the ‘Australian Aviation’ article cannot be accepted as accurate or fair presentation of relevant events and CAA actions. It is not proposed though to pursue that matter here. One of the more concerning claims made in the article has since been retracted by ‘Australian Aviation’ (March 1989). Other aspects of the article with which there is disagreement will be pursued elsewhere, where this might assist constructive dialogue between the CAA and the industry.
