A typical busy morning at KSA. The addition of a 2,400m parallel north! south runway will boost overall movement capability by up to 80% in the long term. However, Federal Government stalling of the Environmental Impact Statement, over a near two year period when it could be completed well before the end of this year, will not see the extra runway operational before 1994 at the earliest.

At Last! Two Great Victories for Aviation
The month of March might well go down in Australian aeronautical history as one in which the aviation industry actually won not one but two significant battles against its political and administrative masters.
First victory was the eleventh hour about face by Federal Cabinet in finally deciding to place sanity before parochial party politics and recognise the need for a third runway at Australia’s primary airport. The second victory gained almost no lay media attention, though in its implications could well represent the long hoped for dawning of a new era in our day to day dealing with the much distrusted CAA.
