Tests using the Pratt & Whitney! Alllson Ultra High Bypass (UHB) 578-DX propfan engine are continuing using MDC's demonstrator aircraft. MDC are also now evaluating the feasibility of using the JAW V2500 turbofan in place of either the GE or P&W!Aflison propane units as airline interest in the latter appears to presently be relatively minimal

Boeing to Compensate Airlines for Late Deliveries:
Boeing is to financially compensate a number of airlines for late delivery of its 747-400 jetliner.
Qantas was originally scheduled to have the first of the superjets into airline service last April though this will not now take place till October. While on the surface this may not sound such a dramatic delay, in reality the consequences are quite serious particularly as all of Boeing’s customers have been waiting desperately for the added capacity that the new jets offer. Most airlines also had their superseded early model -100 and -200 747s already pre-sold with time booked for upgrading and overhaul prior to delivery to the new airline, which in turn desperately required the additional capacity offered by these second-hand aircraft.
