Caa Enter Commercial Aviation Tendering Market:
The Civil Aviation Authority has signalled its intention to bid for commercial contracts in direct head to head competition with the GA industry (refer Recce).
This latest CAA revenue enhancement move came to light in late April when it was announced that the Prevention of Blindness contract from the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau had been won by the CAA Australian Aviation believes that eight companies tendered for the medical clinic run centered on operations in the Kiribati region. The CAA’s winning tender of $42,000 was apparently up to 25% lower than some of the GA tenders received. A number of operators have expressed dismay at how the CAA can offer such a competitive tender when it is operating one of the more expensive air- craft available (a G. 1000) with a crew receiving far higher remuneration than the standard GA award would allow.
