Air Training Corps in Expansive Mode

Air Training Corps Being Used to Greater Extent To boost Raaf recruitment quality

If you are like most of the readers of this publication who frequent local aviation activities and air shows, you are likely to see what appear to be junior members of the RAAF. In fact, these young persons happen to be Air Training Corps Cadets. The Air Training Corps is the cadet forces arm of the RAAF.

Around 70% of cadets go on to apply for RAAFentry, something that makes the Air Training Corps a vital second echelon function in the defence of the nation.

The AIRTC was formed in 1941 as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme with the view of training aircrew for the RAAF during the war. During the Second World War period, out of 14,700 cadets, 12,500 enlisted in various aircrew categories and served in many theatres, distinguishing themselves and the humble corps of their beginning.

The broad aim of the Air Training Corps is, by predominantly voluntary effort, to better equip young people for community life by fostering initiative, leadership, discipline and loyalty through a training programme designed to stimulate interest in the Royal Australian Air Force.
