Destined no doubt to do for the basic A320 line what the -200 did for Boeing's 727 so many years ago, Airbus lndustrie's stretched A321 is set for success in the years ahead as A320 operators look for inevitable growth and airlines everywhere move to larger medium range aircraft to cope with ever worsening congestion.

Great First Half Year for Airbus:
Airbus Industrie has certainly much to celebrate on this, its 20th anniversary.
In the first half of the year the European consortium logged three very important mile- the 500th firm order for the A320, the delivery of the 500th Airbus aircraft and the logging of the 1,000th firm order. In the first six months alone Al took firm orders against 246 aircraft which was one and a half times the sales logged in all of 1988. These firm orders included 48 A300/3108, 95 A320s and 103 A330/340s. Actually, commitments on the joint A330/340 at the end of June totalled 303 from 20 customers, already surpassing those of the A320 at the same point in time after programme launch. As the A320 set a new record for sales achievement then this latest effort is something that the Al partners should feel rightly proud.
