Last of the Tigers, These three F-5E Tiger II aircraft departed Northrop's Mojave facility in July, signalling the end of one of the most successful military aircraft production programmes in history. A total of 3,806 F-5 and T-38 aircraft were produced since the first of the breed, the N-156F test aircraft, first flew in 1959. The USAF's supersonic T-38 Talon trainer, meanwhile, entered service in 1961 and will soldier on till 2010, logging a half century of service in the process. (Northrop)

All Quiet on the Mirage Sale Front:
Anyone looking for a speedy sale of our mothballed Mirage III fighters had better not hold their breath.
Initial interest from both Pakistan and France has largely ebbed away with the result that expressions of interest are now being sought rather than waiting for a surge of activity prior to the finalisation of a tender, etc. As is always the case with selling military hardware, often those who wish to buy your goods are politically too hot to handle. In the case of the Mirages this applies to several nations. Meanwhile attempts to sell the 50 aircraft are being actively pursued through the various defence attaches and foreign affairs sections of embassies and consulates operating in the nations of interest.
