 Pilots Dispute Could Force Government Cash Injection for Australian Qantas:

At presstime, it could be fairly confidently said that it would now be doubtful if Australian Airlines would be able to declare a nett profit for the 89/90 year.

The implication for the Government is that it will now have to inject cash into the domestic carrier or privatise it instead. As the latter is an anathema to ALP policy and would be suicidal so close to an election, the former appears inevitable as Australian will possibly take many years to fully recover from the effects of the dispute.
